v.3.7

sorry for the delay in the posts. my internet connection at home is spotty at best. when i was typing up this post when i was planning to post it last night, the wi-fi went down, so i was forced to postpone the post until now, at a friends house.

as a sort of apology, today and hopefully tomorrow, i'll be posting two of my favorite pictures pictures.

the beach

this is the lake where i spend my summers. directly behind me is the house where i stayed most of these summers, which i'll be posting tomorrow. anyways, the beach is a place of solitude, a place of my childhood, and a place that i can always count on to be there. as soon as i peeled apart the backing from this picture, i was blown away at how much it looks like an ocean. i then realized that although i had never consiously thought about it, it had always been that way in the back of my mind.

christmas time in the e175

happy christmas! i know this is a day late, but it still needed to be posted. this is the tree and giant santa in my room at school. our two dollar charlie brown tree and strange looking sixty inch santa.

paul and célestine

my friends paul and céleste were taking a break when i came across them and i happened to have my camera. this was the very same day that i received my nd filter and had been taking pictures of other friends of mine. i felt that the scene was ripe for some more polaroid magic, and i was very pleased at the way these portraits came out.

connie gram gram

my friend connor f. doyle. sitting on the floor of his bedroom, he looks at me as if asking, "why are you taking my picture?" this was the first time i had been over to his new apartment, and the scene looked right for a photograph. i got home really late that night, and i was kind f upset because i had class the next morning. i went over to an ex-girlfriends apartment the next night, and didn't get home until really late either. so that week was nt a good night for getting to bed early.

v.3.2

after an unplanned hiatus, i am back on track to posting my polaroid a day. moving home from college for winter break can get a little hectic, especially in the face of end-of-term finals.

patrick glenn armstrong

patrick, a good friend at school, allowed me to take his photograph at lunch one afternoon. me, having been smitten my my then recently received nd filter was all hypeed up to be able to take photographs with that certain camera again. my other friend, taylor elizabeth shevey is peering out of what seems an impenetrable fog.

modern crowne

this is the first shot i ever took with polaroid type 669 film. a friend and i were riding our bicycles around the city, and i brought my automatic 250 just for fun. i hadn't really planned on shooting anything, but when i saw this, i knew it needed to happen.

v.2.7

thor

thor is the former boyfriend of a good friend of mine, and we ran into him at a party. he was dressed up in a dinosaur costume and playing songs on the banjo, at which he was rather talented. i think he was a little jealous that i showed up at this party wih his ex-girlfriend, but at least he was civil enough to let me get a quick couple pictures of him.

law breakers

so, apparently it's illegal to swim in minneapolis lakes after the lifeguards go off duty. and apparently nobody really pays attention to that law, especially hot, sweaty teenagers who biked 45 minutes to get to the lake only to be told that the beach is now closed. no way, man.

chicago up!

visiting the school of the art institute of chicago, i was struck by the great architecture lining michigan avenue. just walking down the sidewalk, the accoutrements and the decoration that adorned each building just amazed me. i also love the look, idea and feeling of urban. they just don't make buildings like they used to.

14.12.06

v.2.4

park

riding my bike through the city. observing and listening to the sights and the sounds. i look for colour. i look for something to catch my eye. this parking ramp sign did just that. and it earned extra points for that arrow. this was only my second shot using pack-film. but it made me fall in love with the medium.

v.2.3

dosh

dosh is a fantastic local musician out of minneapolis. he's currently touring with andrew bird. i went to his record release show, and i asked dosh if it would be alright to take his photograph, and he agreed. So we went backstage, and he was rather surprised when i pulled out my Automatic 250 and proceeded to connect the flash and load in a flash-bulb. While i waited for it to develop, i was in a room with Fat Kid Wednesdays and Dosh, that moments earlier i was unaware even existed. Everybody was really nice, and they all wanted to see the polaroid i had jus taken, so it was passed around. after a little while in there, i went back to my friends who were really jealous of what just happened, and saw an amazing show.

p.s. - when andrew bird's new album comes out (20 march) listen to "simple x." i don't know if i can wait that long. but i guess i'm going to have to

ft. snelling

ft. snelling

in the summer time i love riding my bicycle, and in my travels around the city, i often passed by historic fort snelling. i happened to have my camera with me and i spotted this strange door. some people who have seen it tell me it makes them feel sad.

The House of the Future

house of the future

i love simplicity. but after a week of this blog, i feel that this blog is a little too simple. i've decided that i need to elaborate on each photograph that i post, so you, my loyal viewers, are able to get a little more fulfillment out of this whole experience, because images can only explain so much.

i used to pass this house several times a week, riding my bicycle up to the thrift shop, or, in the wintertime, in my car. this house was being moved from down the street because of a conflicting construction job. the house was moved to this location, and it was there for over a year before finally being grounded about a month ago.

caleb wood
caleb wood

looking back over the past couple of years, i have realized that we are not around for very long, and i would like to experience as much of this world as i possibly can. and if that experience entails utilizing as many polaroid cameras as i can find to document the events and environments in which i so often find myself, so be it.

welcome to polaroid-a-day. this is the inaugural post of what will hopefully be a long running project.
